For My Next Trick.....

I keep promising myself that ill try and keep away from doing more seascapes but i always seem to end up there again. The thing is with seascapes, they offer you so much diversity. You could go to the same beach everyday for a week and it would always offer a different perspective because of the tides and weather conditions. Its like a blank canvas and the sea comes in and paints its picture on the scene. These were taken one evening down at Walcott,Norfolk. It was a spur of the moment thing (i know what your thinking, how rare for me) and i did take a risk with some weather patterns more random then a conversation down the pub with your mates about the universe after 10 pints, but it just added to the great sky i was presented with.I have to admit tho that sometimes i get caught up in the photo im taking and got pointed out to me by a family there, that a seal had swam past near to me whilst taking a series of shots.Always helpful to know AFTER the thing has disappeared! My brain has these crazy notions from time to time of little stunts i can perform to get a picture too, with promises of grandeur at the end of it.This particular one involved me doing a high wire walk out along a groyne with the sea crashing below me.At one point i did my best impression of a bird and flapped for dear life to keep balance and in all fairness didn't fall off,but my smugness turned to coyness when i realized that id chose the only part of the beach where a local pubs beer garden overlooked it.What could be better, some entertainment while you drink your beer watching some clown stagger along a thin bit of wood with the finesse of a cow on roller skates! Looking at the positives, least i didn't end up in the water, much to the disappointment of the local drunks.

Doorstep Delights (And Tiny Gripes)

Sometimes as a photographer, you only have to venture a short way from your doorstep to capture something special.I,like any true English person find reasons to moan about where i live from time to time. For instance, the family across the road from me don't seem to have grasped the concept of enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside and seem to want everyone within a 10 mile radius to know exactly what there up to all the time.Either that,or there going for the Guinness world record for noise pollution.I pray for the day a remote control for humans is invented,to be honest i only need the mute button in fairness. The other thing is the amount of microlights and planes that seem to think that my house is air control HQ.Its like listening to depressed Bee's hovering above.'Hello, this is air control....yes we have a free runway for you.....No,there are not cars on it and in no way have i directed you towards a main road'.My point is tho (finally) that apart from these annoyances,i have alot to be thankful for where i live and i think these pictures give just a small glimpse into why i love it here and when you look at Norfolk as a whole,it can really be beautiful.

Now What Was I Doing Again?

Generally before ive even picked up my camera,i have an idea in my mind of how i want the pictures to look and feel of the place im visiting. This is obviously only relevant to places ive already been to before and dont own an amazing ability to see the unknown (much to my own disappointment). From time to time tho,i get
side-tracked.Ok,to say 'from time to time' would be a massive understatement if im being truthful and now as i write this i realize im proving my own theory right so back to the main point.Overstrand was one of those 'special' times of mine.Id wanted to do a sunset down on overstrand beach for a while, but as you can probably tell from the pictures,id either forgot to include a key factor of sunset....the sun setting or i got
side-tracked.But this time it was a good thing. The colour in all fairness never really appeared in the sky but a misty sky allowed for the calm and almost dream like pictures i took instead. As i turned up,there seemed to be a ton of people all in the water who i couldnt help thinking hadnt really choosen the warmest part of the day for a swim.Either that,or someone had told the local tourists that the water at this time of the day had 'healing properties' and then sat in amazement at how well his joke had worked.Despite the oceans best efforts to give me a watery slap round the chops,i came back with a set of shots that came about
on a 'side-tracked' whim but feel exceeded my first ideas.

There's So Many Colours Man!

Ive visited Sheringham Park on numerous occasions over the years and had some great shots taken there but there was always one thing that sat in the back of my mind and bugged me.There was talk of a certain time of year there when the Rhododendrons are in bloom, that transformed it into a sea of colour. It was like a myth told to people who knew the local crazy fool who'd seen it,kinda like the Loch Ness monster.Well.......i was to become that crazy fool! It had all started when i was doing my usual trawl through the crap on my facebook page when these pictures jumped out at me and practically slapped me in the face.A couple of friends of mine had been up to Sheringham park and taken a couple of pictures that oozed pinks, violets and whites. As quick as a flash,a message was sent to the friends in question,'were these recent?' and 'are they still there?' I was told that it had been a couple of days prior but the petals were dropping fast and wouldn't be there much longer. That was it,i felt like my blood had been replaced with red bull and i couldn't sit still.I had to go there, and right away! Id had a partically heavy day at work so all my body wanted to do was rest but my brain had other ideas. As i walked across one of the meadows there i wondered if i was too late, but then through the treeline saw this burst of colour.I felt like id walked straight into a fairytale there,it didn't seem real.Round every corner were these amazing colours and just when you thought you'd come to the end you stumble across more.It is a truly remarkable place to visit when the rhododendrons are in full bloom and if you ever get the chance then go,as its like nothing id ever seen before.
